Policies & Info
Below are hotel policies and information; please read them carefully and abide by the rules.
Air Conditioning and Heating
“It’s a concrete block; hot in the summer, cold in the winer.” Retired Highway Patrol Officer talking about their experience locking folks up in this exact facility in the 80’s.
We’ve made significant upgrades to the building in order to create a comfortable interior temperature during all weather conditions while still maintaining the authenticity and charm of this historic jailhouse. The challenges of extreme weather on a concrete square are real and documented but here is a list of ways that we have worked to address them:
a professionally installed 12,000BTU mini-split AC/Heater
multiple fans for improved circulation (for best results, keep on low at all times)
new rooftop deck to shade the roof and reduce heat transfer
insulated metal entry door
extra quilts stored under the bed
Our policy states that we do not refund based on temperature complaints; however, we understand the challenges and will take that into consideration. Texas weather is fairly mild for the majority of the year but if you are here during a freeze or an extremely hot spell then your stay might take on more of a glamping feel. Just know, we do our best to make your time in jail as comfortable and accommodating as possible!
Please check the weather prior to booking and pack accordingly.
Point & Shoot: Use the remote control and point directly at the numbers on the wall mounted AC/Heat unit. The mode will most likely be pre-set to the appropriate heat/cool option. However, you can confirm by looking at your remote and seeing a snowflake for cold and heat waves for heat. Press (+) or (-) to adjust the jail's temperature.
Payment Policy
Our rate is based on single or double occupancy per night and is subject to change without notice. A major credit card is required to pay for your stay. No checks or cash are accepted. Price listed is our quoted nightly cost and does not included sales tax. Please add 13% for local and state tax. Upon confirmation of your reservation, we will charge a deposit equal to one night's stay to the credit card provided. Your reservation is not confirmed until your card has been charged.
By confirming the reservation, you authorize The Cell Block to charge your credit card for all costs incurred during your stay, including any items damaged or removed from your room.
Continuing the original Clifton jail tradition, only 1 to 2 adults (21+ yo) may spend the night in jail.

The jailer will also send you the combination code to access the rooftop deck. Once inside, you will find the key to turn on the fire pit. If you have any issues, please contact the jailer (254-227-5656). Enter The Cell Block prison door from the alley.

Deposits are non-refundable if cancellations are made less than 7 days in advance. Cancellations also include runaways and no shows.
Lock and Key Policy
The Cell Block faces a public town alley, and we strongly recommend The Cell Block door is locked at all times. We are not responsible for any accidents or injury, damages to personal property or vehicles, or for the loss of money or valuables of any kind.
Parking Lot
The Cell Block is located mid-way down Clifton Art Alley. As our prisoner, you may park 1 vehicle in the small private parking lot adjacent to The Cell Block, but it is mandatory to leave room and access for 2 more cars (tenants of Alley Loft building). All other vehicles may park for free on the 2 city streets (3rd & 5th Street). Please be advised the alley road is a bumpy gravel road. Any vehicles parked blocking the alley and/or the parking lot's tenants' access may be towed at owner's expense.
Wine
Enjoy a complimentary bottle of The Cell Block’s own Tempranillo wine. Made by Red Caboose Winery. Tasting room located in Clifton Tx, on Hwy 6. Wine glasses and bottle opener available.
Smoking Policy
Smoking is strictly prohibited inside The Cell Block. If evidence of smoking inside is found, you will be billed cleaning charges of $300.
Rooftop Prison Yard
The Cell Block has a rooftop Prison Yard for your private enjoyment (the light switch is inside, next to the door). Follow the walkway around to the stairs behind the jail door. You can sunbathe, read, smoke, light the fire pit, stargaze, or almost any other legal activity.
Gas Fire Pit
The Prison Yard includes a rocky gas fire pit as well. Take the gas key and the box of matches, turn the gas on, then light the gas ring in the lava rocks. When finished with your fire, turn the gas off and return the key to the inside wall shelf.
Pet Policy
Although we love pets, no pets are allowed on prison property (a fine of $250 will be charged to your credit card if your pet is discovered).
Children & Under Age Policy
The Cell Block is not appropriate for children or teenagers. No one under the age of 21 is allowed in the jail.
